Pressing Forward: Nissha’s Journey Of Vision And Victory

by Samantha Tilkins adapted from Rocky Tsuruta

At the heart of every business decision lies a narrative—a story that intertwines past endeavors with future aspirations. For Nissha, the journey from its humble beginnings in 1929 to its present stature as a global leader in technology is one marked by visionary leadership, commitment, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Founded by current CEO Junya Suzuki’s grandfather, Naoki Suzuki, with just a single printing press procured a local newspaper company he previously worked at, Nissha began with just three employees including Suzuki and his brother.

Suzuki was on a mission to revolutionize photographic printing in Japan. His dream was to produce “very high quality photographic printing, which no other can compete with” for the antiqueand artwork market in Japan—a dream that would soon galvanize a company and shape its destiny.

Despite the stability of his previous employment, Suzuki’s passion for innovation propelled him to chart a new course—one that would ultimately redefine the landscape of technology and manufacturing. His belief in pursuing one’s passion became the guiding principle of Nissha’s culture, encouraging each member of the company to embark on their own journey of discovery and fulfillment. This principle drove the company to product diversification such as the development of touch sensor technology for smartphones and tablets.

In 2016, Nissha’s trajectory took a significant turn with its acquisition of Graphic Controls (GC). The decision to pursue GC stemmed from a shared spirit of entrepreneurship and a commitment to excellence—a reflection of Nissha’s own storied history. GC’s core business in printing, coupled with its expansion into the medical segment, aligned seamlessly with Nissha’s mission and values.

Central to Nissha’s mission is the realization of enriching people’s lives through technology—a vision encapsulated in its mission statement:
